            The objective of this project is to pay the Electricity Bill through SMS.

            This project is very useful in today’s life. By using this project we can pay the Electricity Bill through SMS instead of standing in the queue in front of the EB office.

            This project is designed with microcontroller, Infrared transmitter & Receiver, Signal conditioning unit, Real-time clock, level logic converter and data cable with mobile.

            Infrared transmitter is one type of LED which emits infrared rays generally called IR Transmitter. Similarly IR Receiver is used to receive the IR rays but both are placed in straight line to each other. IR Transmitter and Receiver are placed top and down side of the energy meter disc respectively. In disc we put one hole; through this IR rays are passed between transmitter and receiver. The output of the IR Receiver is given to signal conditioning unit, which converts the square pulse and given to microcontroller.

            RTC is the real time clock which generate time signal. It is the special type battery in build IC. Even though power supply off, it continuously generating the time signal and given to microcontroller. Here the microcontroller may be Atmel or PIC both are flash type reprogrammable microcontroller.

            In microcontroller we have already programmed that cost per unit. So it receives the pulse from signal conditioning unit and increment the count value. Corresponding unit and cost are displayed on the LCD display.

            Every two months after microcontroller sends the consumed unit and price to mobile phone through RS232 converter. Mobile phone sends SMS of this information to EB office as well as owners mobile these numbers already stored in the microcontroller.

            Now if the owner wants to pay the amount, he just SMS to bank in which he has accounted once the amount is paid. Bank sends reply to this energy meter mobile phone. So microcontroller clears the unit value again it counts from zero.
