PC BASED POWER MANAGEMENT IN COLLEGE OR INDUSTRY
OBJECTIVE:
The aim of the project is to monitor the power room electrical equipments parameters like current, voltage and power. Display the all parameters in computer, and save all values in that system by using embedded system technology.
Generation to end user driven machines and facilities, electrical power goes through a series of systems and links. In each step of the power chain, the quality and amount of power is important to measure and monitor/control.
A data logger (also data logger or Data recorder) is an electronic device that records data over time or in relation to location either with a built in instrument or sensor or via external instruments and sensors. Increasingly, but not entirely, they are based on a digital processor (or computer). They generally are small, battery powered, portable, and equipped with a microprocessor, internal memory for data storage, and sensors. Some data loggers interface with a personal computer and utilize software to activate the data logger and view and analyze the collected data, while others have a local interface device (keypad, LCD) and can be used as a stand-alone device.
Discipline:
            The project is separated by three parts, first one is parameters sensing part, second one is parameter calculation and display part, third one is save all values in computer. In this first part the load current and voltage values are sensed by the current transformers and voltage transformers. In that second part the sensing values are calculated by microcontroller.
            The all calculated values like current, voltage and power is displayed in computer by using communication port. In that data logging system save all the parameter values at all times. So from that saved values easily we identified amount of energy utilized.
This project is implemented using Current and Potential transformers, PIC micro-controller, Signal conditioning unit and PC with RS232 cable.
