Smart Parking Reservation System using Short Message Services

Smart Parking Reservation System using Short Message Services (SMS)

Introduction of embedded:
Embedded system debugging involves more conceptual layers of a target system than debugging for time-sharing systems. Consider the case of debugging a C program within a time-sharing system. User-debugger interaction occurs almost entirely at a C language level of abstraction. Descent into assembly language and machine code representations of a target program is rare. Suspicions about a compiler bug may require inspection of generated assembly code.
About GSM:
GSM is a digital mobile communication network which develops rapidly in recent years. Short Message Service of GSM is a value-added service based on data packet switching provided by mobile communication company using GSM network besides of all sorts of telecommunication services and bearer services based on the circuit-switched. The global positioning system (GPS) uses the earth's centre and three axes at right angles to describe a position on the earth's surface. This positioning system is based on a linear measurement of meters from the centre along each of the three axes, describing a set of Cartesian coordinates. Latitude and Longitude is a more practical definition for everyday use, and is a derivative calculated from the axis figures.
Proposed system:
In this proposed system, we are going to reverse the parking slot in shopping mall, theatres and etc, by using short message service. There are lots of parking slots available in parking area. Using IR sensor to detect the slots available or not. The microcontroller is interfaced with GSM modem and LCD shows the status of the available seats. If users want to reverse the slot, they have sent the pre defined code message to GSM modem.GSM receives the messages and compare the pre defined code. If the seats are available the users can get the confirmation message by through GSM modem.
The most of the existing car parks do not have a systematic system. Most of them are manually managed and a little inefficient. The problem that always occurs at the car park is time being wasted in searching for the available parking spaces. Users will keep on circling the parking area until they found an empty parking spot. This problem usually occurs in urban areas, where number of vehicles is higher as compared to the availability of parking spaces. These ineffective conditions happened because of the lack of implementation in technologies which are available in the market today. Various systems have been done to ensure smoothness of traffic in car park areas. From manual implementations used in the old systems, they have evolved into fully automated, computerized systems. Car park entrances are controlled by barrier gates whereby parking tickets are used extensively for access purpose. With the growth of technology, these systems have been simplified in many ways.
As proposed by, RFID technology could be utilized for entering and exiting parking areas. Using this approach, queuing time for getting the entrance ticket as well as payment upon exiting could be completely eliminated. However this method does not solve the problem of users having to search for available parking lots. One of the ways to address this issue is by displaying the number of available parking spaces at each floor of the parking area using the LCD display. Another way is by mounting indication lights on top of each parking lot to inform the users on parking availability.
The drawbacks of these methods are that although the searching time is reduced, users will still need to circle around to look for the empty spaces. In some places, users can book their parking spaces online. All they need to do is to log in into the specified website for the reservation .In other areas; users can actually check the availability of parking spaces using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and reserve the parking space via website or mobile phones. Another technology in smart parking system is that the users are actually guided to the empty parking spaces by the arrow indicators located at the ceiling. The users need to make the parking reservation first via online and will receive the confirmation code through SMS.
Hence for this project, it is proposed that users can just reserve their parking places using the SMS without having to go online. They will receive the password to enter the parking area as well as the lot number for parking once their reservation is confirmed. Should they exceed the time to reach the parking area, the password will expire and they will be notified through SMS.
